BIO:
New York-bred singer songwriter girl named GOLDEN, formally Bailey Cooke, has been making music her entire life. Growing up in LA, her relationship with music began at four years old, when her parents first introduced her to classical piano, which she would seriously pursue until she graduated from college.
With a strong fundamental background established in music, and with personal musical heroes such as Elliott Smith, Brian Wilson, and Dr. Dre, her music interests gradually branched out into various genres of music, exploring everything from indie-pop to alt R&B, and experimenting with instruments such as the Wurlitzer keyboard, Moog Rogue & Op1 synthesizers, plastic keyboards, analog drum machines, and much more. “Regardless of genre,” GOLDEN says, “I’m mostly just trying to write a good song and find a new way of combining tones, words, and that whole phenomenon of getting a song stuck in your head.”
Today, from her Brooklyn, NY apartment, she records music she often refers to as “classical bedroom pop,” mainly due to the fact that “I’m still learning how to produce as I go,” she shares. Her success in the production arena has been primarily due to the early connections she forged with a crew of highly talented producers, engineers, and mixers, upon moving to New York City; many of whom were affiliated with the prestigious Electric Lady Studios. “I’ll be thanking Jimi Hendrix for that ‘til I die,” she remarks.
On girl named GOLDEN’s sound, Buzz Music says “the melancholic chanteuse produces and writes all of her own music and uses her soft-touch incantations to paint the inside spaces of our minds a whimsical Lo-fi hue.” Reviewing GOLDEN’s 2020 single “Hate,” The Revue said “Like Billie Eilish and Maggie Rogers before her, [GOLDEN] is completely a DIY, bedroom-pop artist – that is until Pharrell Williams exalts her talents or a label signs her. An artist this talented should not hover under the radar that long.”
girl named GOLDEN’s music has been featured in Paramount Plus’ TV series “Wolf Pack” with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Netflix’s TV series “Never Have I Ever” by Mindy Kaling.
